Pisum sativum is one, although widespread worldwide herbaceous plant of the legume family (Fabacea), more or less climbing, typical of the Mediterranean basin. It is grown for its small seeds which, like the plant itself, has different names, depending on the area; among others, peas, peas, peas or arbeyu- and young pods that surround them, much appreciated for human consumption.
Peas are a cool season crop that can be enjoyed both in spring and in autumn. Requires a loose, light soil. Although not very choosy about the organic rich soil, it should provide some complex fertilizer, containing some lime and dolomite. This culture does not tolerate very acidic soils and to monitor the pH has to try to not less than 6.5. Need a sunny exposure and frequent watering.
Like all legumes, as well as being a good source of protein, minerals and fiber is beneficial to the earth, and fixes nitrogen in the soil due to Rhizobium bacteria that proliferate in root nodules and produce nitrates.
