WHITE RICE

It is called white rice to milled rice husk devoid of (shell), bran and germ. This is done to prevent degradation of rice and extend life. Behind him, the grains are polished with brilliant white appearance.

The grinding operation removes much of its nutritional qualities. A diet based on white rice unenriched can cause neurological diseases such as beriberi, due to a deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1). White rice is often enriched with residues from the previous treatment.

In the United States it is mandatory reenriquecer white rice with vitamin B1, B3 and iron.

Since the nineteenth century, and wild rice are regularly presented as healthier. Rice bran and germ contain fiber, vitamins and minerals. This contrasts with the traditional view of brown rice, which associates it with poverty and hunger.
